Trailer: But the Flesh is Weak
"Based on a bestseller by Mishima Yukio published the same year. The project began as an idea by Nikkatsu to cash in on the book, but Nakahira and screenwriter Shindo Kaneto couldn’t get excited about the material and even tried to refuse the project, at which they were told to go back to work. In the end they colluded to make an “adultery movie” that didn’t actually have any adultery in it, which didn't please Nikkatsu. This was the first film as assistant director for Nishimura Shogoro who would later go on to direct many of his own films, such as Gate of Flesh."
